Ken Martlage

Ken Martlage, is President of the privately held Indianapolis performance consulting and coaching company, Phoenix Images, Inc. Additionally, he is in collaborative consulting relationships with Tercon Consulting, Kansas; ABG, Inc., Indianapolis; Roland-Diamond Associates, New Hampshire; Asherman Associates, Inc, New York; and Humanergy, Battle Creek Michigan.

In 2000, Ken retired from Eli Lilly and Company, pharmaceuticals, after 28 years in various management and technical positions. His experience base included human resources, training and development, basic discovery research, product development, clinical trial management, compensation development, industrial health and safety, and manufacturing. Thirteen of these years were spent in management, eight of those in Human Resources assignments.

Ken also taught basic physiology, biology and zoology for 11 years as an adjunct professor at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis. Ken has also served on a Governor-appointed State consortium and a National Board charged with the development of technical workforce performance standards.

During the most recent 15 years of his career at Lilly, Ken developed an expertise in team development, leadership development, and individual and executive performance coaching. He was co-designer and master trainer for a major performance development program, delivering facilitator, team member and team leader training in the U.S. as well as Europe. He also collaborated with Buckner Roderick inside of Lilly since 1991, coordinating their work with over 9,000 employees, and utilizing their materials in a team development and individual executive coaching practice with over 17 major product teams. Ken has developed extensive experience in individual coaching for both executives and associates, including years of experience utilizing MBTI and FIRO-B assessments for both individual and group leadership and collaborative development.

Ken’s current consulting centers around trust, communication, relationships and conflict resolution as they provide a competitive advantage to business and leadership development.

Ken’s undergraduate and graduate education is in Zoology and Human Physiology.

He has also done considerable specialized post-graduate work with the Gestalt Institute in Cleveland, OH., and the Gestalt International Study Center, Cape Cod, MA. Ken is a qualified facilitator in the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), the Strong Interest Inventory, FIRO-B, and Asherman's Successful Negotiation. Ken is an active member of the Central Indiana ASTD.
